This is a drawn signature, not a cryptographic one
The term 'digital signature' means two different things, and the difference is substantial. This tool captures a signature you draw and produces an image of it — an electronic signature. A cryptographic digital signature is something else entirely: a mathematical operation using a private key that proves both who signed and that the document has not changed by a single byte since.
Both are legally recognised in many jurisdictions, and they carry different evidential weight. Knowing which one you have matters before you rely on it for anything consequential.
What a drawn signature does and does not prove
An image of a signature demonstrates intent — the signer performed the act deliberately, which is legally meaningful under frameworks such as eIDAS in Europe and the ESIGN Act in the United States. For most everyday agreements that is sufficient, which is why electronic signing is now routine.
What it cannot do is prove the document is unaltered. The image sits on the page like any other image; the content underneath can be changed afterwards and the signature will still be there, looking exactly as valid. Nor does it prove identity: an image can be copied from one document to another by anyone who has it.
Drawing one that looks right
A signature drawn with a mouse looks like a signature drawn with a mouse. A trackpad is worse. A finger on a phone or tablet is noticeably better, and a stylus is better again — it is the only input that produces something resembling the signature you make on paper.
Signing slowly makes the result look worse rather than better, because a natural signature is a fast, practised motion and slow reproduction produces visible wobble. Signing at normal speed and accepting the first reasonable attempt gives a more convincing result than careful tracing.
Transparency, and the white box problem
A signature saved with a transparent background sits cleanly on a document. Saved as a format without transparency, it arrives as a white rectangle covering whatever it is placed over — a familiar and unmistakably amateurish result on a contract.
Resolution matters for printing. A signature that looks fine on screen at a few hundred pixels wide becomes visibly jagged when the document is printed, so capture larger than you think you need.
Where higher assurance is required
Property transfers, wills, some court filings and various regulated processes require qualified electronic signatures backed by a certificate from an accredited provider, or wet ink on paper. No image-based signature satisfies those requirements regardless of how it was produced.
For everything else, keep in mind that an image of your signature is a reusable asset. Everything here runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded — which matters, because a signature image sitting on someone else's server is exactly the thing you do not want copied onto a document you never saw.
